March With Us In Celebration Of The 61st Annual White Cane Day!

Welcome to White Cane Day 2025!

This year, we’re bringing together our community, public officials, and the media to celebrate and raise awareness about the independence and capabilities of people who are blind and low vision. The event will feature a march through downtown Raleigh, starting at the North Carolina General Assembly and ending at Artspace on East Davie Street.

Presentation

Starting at 10 a.m., the presentation will include remarks from leaders of the community, public officials, and others. The governor is expected to issue a proclamation honoring White Cane Safety Day 2025, and we are hopeful he will present it in person. If the Governor cannot attend, we will ask another public official to make the presentation. The presentation will last about 45 minutes, after which we will depart for the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

March

Immediately following the presentation, our group will march down Wilmington Street to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, across the street from the State Capitol, for a rally. Participants are encouraged to bring their guide dogs, use their white canes and carry signs and noisemakers to raise our visibility during the march. The march will continue to Artspace following a brief demonstration.

Rally at NCDOT

Our group will stop in front of the North Carolina Department of Transportation building at the corner of Wilmington and Morgan Streets for about 15 minutes to make some noise and be seen by the Department of Transportation staff. Chants and comments during this demonstration should be positive and affirming. At around 11:30, the group will continue southward on Wilmington Street and then head over to Artspace at 215 E. Davie Street.

Social Time at Artspace

At the conclusion of the march, there will be time for social interaction for the community at Artspace, 215 E. Davie Street. There will be light refreshments and time to meet people and have some discussions while waiting for rides.

Inclement Weather

If the weather does not cooperate, the entire event will take place at Artspace, starting at 10AM. We can expect to finish up to an hour earlier. The Presentation and social time will take place, and the March and demonstration will be cancelled.
