About the Brady Jones Benevolent Fund

The Brady Jones Benevolent Fund was established by the North Carolina Council of the Blind in honor and recognition of Mr. Jones’ dedication, devotion and tireless effort to promote work and issues of the blind throughout North Carolina. Mr. Jones dies in 1997 while still active in this organization.

The purpose of the Brady Jones Benevolent Fund is to intervene and alleviate personal crises of eligible individuals through financial or other appropriate means of intervention. The crises may include, but are not limited to, medical needs, personal financial crises beyond the applicant’s control, or other emergencies.

The applicant must have exhausted all other mean at his/her disposal. Verification of these efforts may be required.

Qualifications include any current member of the North Carolina Council of the Blind and/or other person within the state who meets the federal definition of legal blindness.

Sight Savers America is a nonprofit organization that has a Program focusing on helping children with blindness and severe low vision by providing life-changing assistive technology in their homes at no cost to qualifying families. Sight Savers America is coming to North Carolina. This  non-profit organization will provide vision aids such as desktop video magnifiers, portable video magnifiers, and blind aids for children to have and keep at home.   Sight Savers America is starting with 4 Counties in NC this year and have hopes to grow and spread through out the state. The 4 counties are Rowan, Cabarrus, Stanley and Mecklenburg counties, if you know of any children in these counties, please pass their names on.

Schools, parents, doctors, relatives, friends, and other children’s advocates may refer children to the SSA Low Vision & Blind Program for low vision evaluations and prescribed assistive technology.
