MARCH WITH US IN CELEBRATE OF THE 60TH WHITE CANE DAY!
Our members and friends will gather at Artspace https://artspacenc.org/visit/, 201 E. Davie St. Raleigh, NC at 9:00 AM to march together for a presentation ceremony at the NC Legislature. Proclamation presentation begins at 10:00 AM.
WHITE CANE DAY draws attention to people who are blind or visually impaired who want to participate in public life alongside everyone else. Creating more safe, inclusive and accessible spaces is our call to action.
There are more than 300,000 blind or low vision residents living in North Carolina. All of us should be able to access the built environment….if it is built with all of us in mind. We have a right to fully participate in community life – so bring your white cane and comfortable shoes and walk with public officials and the press to make a strong statement of inclusion for everyone who is blind or visually impaired.
The first White Cane Day occurred just months after the Civil Rights Act was passed. Conceived in a time of activism in 1964, White Cane Day is just as relevant today because we are still fighting for our right to full inclusion
We urge you to come out and walk with your community to help raise awareness. There is strength in numbers!
